Atwater police are looking for a group of men believed to have gang raped a Merced County teenager over the weekend.

Lt. Samuel Joseph said officers have identified one man as a suspect, 21-year-old Guillermo Rebollero, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The victim, an 18-year-old girl, was “lured” about 1:30 a.m. Sunday to a home on Kelso Street, where she was sexually assaulted by the men, according to Atwater police, who believe Rebollero was among the men.

“The detectives are still working on identifying the others involved in this incident,” Joseph said Monday.

Police said it was too early to comment on many details of the investigation.

The woman told police she entered the home and a man blocked her path to the front door. They took her cellphone and “dragged” her by the hair into another room, where she was assaulted, Joseph said.

She escaped after the attackers feared she’d managed to contact police. She was taken to a regional hospital and has been receiving care, police said.

Police believe the attackers are all involved in a criminal street gang in Atwater.

Rebollero was described by police as Latino, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 175 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is considered dangerous and may be armed, police said.

Rebollero pleaded guilty Nov. 17, 2014, in a felony domestic violence case and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, according to Merced Superior Court records.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding Rebollero’s location or any other information to contact Atwater police at 357-6395. All tips are confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
