$5,000 in cigarettes stolen from Atwater store

Thieves smashed through a glass door early Sunday at an Atwater tobacco store and stole thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes, the Police Department reported.

Officers found the shattered door around 1:36 a.m. Sunday at Smoke & Vape, 1855 Bellevue Road, Lt. Samuel Joseph said.

Police believe the burglars took about 100 cartons of cigarettes with an estimated value of about $5,000. Authorities said the glass door would cost about $2,000 to replace.

No arrests have been made. Descriptions of the thieves were not available Sunday.

“Investigators are looking through surveillance videos from the other stores in the area to see if they captured any part of this theft,” Joseph told the Sun-Star.
