Merced man arrested for possessing stolen handgun, ammo, police say

A 19-year-old Merced man was arrested at his home after officers searched it and found a stolen gun, police said.

The Merced Police Department's Gang Violence Suppression Unit received information about Austin Anderson-Baldwin, described by police as a gang member, having a gun at his home in the 600 block of East 23rd Street in Merced, according to a news release.

They served a search warrant at the home at about 5 p.m. Saturday and found a stolen 22 caliber handgun, ammunition and gang apparel, the release states.

Anderson-Baldwin reportedly admitted he owned the handgun and he was arrested and booked into the Merced County jail for stolen property, a weapons charge and gang enhancements, according to the release.
