Weapons seized, four arrested in Merced

Four men were arrested hours apart Friday night and Saturday morning on suspected weapons violations in Merced, according to a Police Department news release.

Merced police seized a knife and two loaded firearms, including a stolen .22-caliber revolver, officers said in the statement.

Rudy Polk, 30, and Gregory Spruell, 44, were arrested about 11 p.m. Friday in an alley near 19th and G streets. Both men were spotted in the area shortly after police received reports of gunshots, officers said.

Police say Polk was carrying a loaded .38-caliber special revolver. He was booked into the Merced County jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, investigators said.

Details of Polk’s prior conviction were not available.

Spruell was taken into custody on suspicion of carrying a concealed dagger and two warrants on driving under the influence, police said.

“It is unknown at this time if Polk and Spruell were involved with gunshots heard in the area,” police said in the statement.

Two hours later, about 1 a.m. Saturday, police were searching for an armed man said to have been hiding in an alley near West 12th and I streets. Officers spotted George Eddings and Treonte Williams in a vehicle near that location, police said.

Investigators found a loaded .22-caliber revolver inside the vehicle and later confirmed the weapon had been reported stolen, police said.

Williams, 23, and Eddings, 25, were arrested and booked on charges of being convicted felons in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of stolen property and street gang participation, according to police.

Details of their prior convictions were not available.
