Suspect who allegedly cashed fictitious check arrested in Dos Palos, police say

A Merced man has been arrested after he was allegedly recorded on video cashing a fictitious check, according to Dos Palos police.

Police Chief Richard McEachin said Christopher Bryant, 33, was arrested at about 10:14 p.m. Sunday, after an officer saw him walking eastbound on Almond Street.

Police said the officer recognized the suspect from a liquor store video.

According to McEachin, Bryant was caught on video allegedly cashing a fictitious check in the amount of $753 at Discount Liquor on Center Avenue in September.

Police said the officer also located a glass pipe and a shaved key on Bryant during the arrest.

Bryant was arrested on suspicion of felony fictitious check making, false checks records or certificate, commercial burglary, conspiracy, as well as misdemeanor possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to authorities.

Bryant remains in custody at the John Latoracca Correctional Center in lieu of $73,000 bond, according to jail records.
