Merced man arrested after early-morning felony hit-and-run, police say

A felony arrest has been made following a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with non-life threatening injuries, according to a Merced Police Department release.

Merced Police were dispatched at 6:35 a.m. Friday to West 13th and R Streets for a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. The driver fled the scene in a dark-colored older truck, police said in the statement.

The victim, a 50-year-old Merced resident whose name was not released, was transported by ambulance to the hospital and treated for his injuries. He suffered some trauma to his lower extremities, but is expected to fully recover, Sgt. Joseph Perez said.

Officer Edwin Arias located the suspect’s vehicle two hours later in the 1900 block of E. Childs Avenue.

Larry Queen, 68, of Merced, was identified as the truck’s owner. He admitted to leaving the scene after striking the pedestrian with his vehicle, according to police.

Queen has at least one prior arrest within Merced County, Perez said.

Queen was arrested and booked into the Merced County jail on suspicion of fleeing an accident scene after causing an injury. His bond is set at $20,000.
