Merced police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14, according to police records.

The suspect, identified as Carlos Aluizo, 43, of Modesto, was arrested by officers shortly before 11 a.m. in Merced on Saturday, Feb. 1.

According to court records, Aluizo is charged with three counts of felony lewd act upon a child with enhancements for crimes that allegedly happened in Merced between Oct. 2012 and Dec. 2015.

Police reports state the child and their mother reported the alleged sexual assault to Merced police in December. The child told their mother they were raped while between the ages of about 6 and 8.

The mother told police she would sometimes leave the child at a house, alone with Aluizo when she left the residence, according to the police report.

In the report, the child told authorities they were touched inappropriately by Aluizo multiple times when left with him at the residence. Police reports also state the child alleged they were raped once by Aluizo.

Aluizo remains in custody at the John Latoracca Correctional Center in lieu of $500,000 bond, according to jail records.
