Suspect arrested in Merced stabbing reported near 14th and V streets
Merced police arrested a 26-year-old man as a suspect in stabbing reported Wednesday morning near 14th and V streets.
Dispatch received a 911 hang up call at about 8 a.m. from Motel 6 in the 1400 block of V Street, according to a news release.
Police received additional information that someone had been stabbed. Arriving officers located two adult males with stab wounds, police said.
During an investigation authorities learned the suspect, identified as Victor Casares, allegedly stabbed the other man multiple times.
According to Detective-Sgt. Rey Alvarez, Casares, who is currently residing in the Merced area, also sustained cuts during the incident.
Alvarez said the weapon was reported to be some type of cutting instrument and investigators are still processing the scene. Authorities are working to determine a motive for the alleged assault, Alvarez said.
Upon completion of medical treatment, Casares is expected to be booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The other man was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
