Melvin Milton Jenner, 38, of Turlock is accused of stealing a vehicle and leading Merced police on a high speed chase.

Merced police say a pursuit of a stolen vehicle led officers Friday afternoon on a pursuit exceeding 100 mph on southbound Highway 99.

An officer identified a stolen 2006 Chevy Tahoe at West 13th and R streets, according to a department news release.

The driver, Melvin Milton Jenner, 38, of Turlock, failed to stop.

Police said Jenner drove onto the highway’s shoulder several times during the pursuit.

While the vehicle sped toward Road 15 in Chowchilla, California Highway Patrol deployed spike strips. The vehicle’s passenger side tires hit the spike strips.

CHP then utilized a technique called a PIT maneuver that caused the stolen vehicle to stop.

Jenner was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of multiple felony charges and a misdemeanor, including evading an officer, receiving/possessing stolen property and violating probation.

Jenner was being held at the Merced County Jail in lieu of $101,800 bail.

Merced police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Officer Shaw at (209) 385-6905.

The public can send information anonymously via text messages to the police department by dialing “TIP411” (847411) and including the word “Comvip” as the “keyword” in the text message.
