Atwater man found with large bag of meth during traffic stop, deputies say
A vehicle stop for expired registration led to the arrest of an Atwater man who allegedly possessed a significant amount of methamphetamine, according to a Merced County Sheriff’s Department news release.
The incident occurred Thursday, Feb. 20 in Winton.
Robert Dustin Christensen, 33, reportedly failed to yield for several blocks when Deputy Jesus Benavides attempted to stop his vehicle. Christensen eventually stopped and was detained near Cindy Street and Helton Street.
Christensen was found to be in violation of his probation with an active felony warrant for his arrest. Benavides arrested Christensen and searched his vehicle.
Multiple items associated with the sale of methamphetamine were discovered, the release says.
A further search of the engine compartment turned up a large plastic bag near the car’s battery containing about a pound of methamphetamine.
Christensen was booked into the Merced County Jail without bond for alleged possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance and the felony warrant.
