A Merced man has been arrested after police say he brandished a firearm while stealing items from a local electronics store.

Trevon Dickinson, 25, was arrested on Monday at a motel in the 1300 block of West 16th Street in Merced, after he was identified as the armed robbery suspect, according to a Merced Police Department news release.

Police said detectives located two firearms in his room, one of which may have been the weapon used in a robbery at Best Buy in Merced on March 4.

The Merced Best Buy closed earlier this month, after the store’s lease had run out.

Police said officers responded to the West Olive Avenue store for an armed robbery at about 12:45 p.m.. Store employees told police a male entered and selected several items before attempting to exit without paying, according to police.

As the suspect attempted to leave the store, he was confronted by store employees. The suspect then brandished a firearm at the employees and was able to flee the scene, police said.

Merced police detectives followed up on the case, and Dickinson was interviewed by police. He was later booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of multiple felony charges including robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to jail records.

Merced police ask anyone with information regarding the crime to contact Detective Kalvin Haygood at 209-388-6998 or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at 209-385-4752.

Information can be sent to police via anonymous text message by dialing “TIP411” and including the word “Comvip” as the “keyword” in the text message, according to authorities.
