Police investigating shooting near Livingston park

Authorities on Sunday were continuing to investigate a weekend shooting near Frederick Worden Park in Livingston.

Officers responded to the area just before 10 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shooting, according to Livingston Police Sgt. Ray Fong.

Police said multiple vehicles and houses were struck by gunfire and no injuries were reported by area residents.

By the time officers arrived, anyone believed to have been involved was gone, according to Fong.

Police said a 19-year-old male may have been a victim. The man reportedly checked himself into a Modesto-area hospital with two gunshot wounds but has been uncooperative with investigators, Fong said.

About 15 shell casings were found in two locations near the park, police said. Investigators discovered evidence near the intersections of Park View Drive and Wells Avenue and Park View and Sun Valley Avenue. According to Fong, investigators also found blood at the scene.

Police said they believe more than one automatic pistol was fired.

One of three vehicles believed to be involved was recovered, Fong said. It was described as a newer model pickup.

There are about 10 houses in the area, a newer subdivision with cameras installed on some of the nearby homes, according to police.

“We’re still collecting witness statements and any video we can find to trace movements of parties involved,” Fong said.

No description of the suspects was released. The shooting is being investigated as possibly gang-related, according to Fong.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Livingston Police Department at (209) 394-7619 or call the anonymous tip line at 209-394-3640. People can also contact the Merced Area Crime Stoppers at 1-855-725-2420, according to police.
