DUI suspected in fatal rollover crash reported near Delhi, CHP reports

One juvenile is dead and many others were injured after a weekend rollover vehicle crash reported north of Delhi, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers were dispatched the scene on Vincent Road, south of Linwood Avenue, just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the CHP’s preliminary investigation, Osvaldo Ibarra, 21, of Turlock, was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry with seven occupants. Among those inside the Camry were two juvenile females riding on the laps of the rear passengers, according to CHP Officer Eric Zuniga.

The vehicle was traveling southbound Vincent Road at a high rate of speed when it went off the road and overturned multiple times.

Ibarra and a juvenile female passenger were ejected from the Camry. As a result, the juvenile was left lying in the roadway.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Delhi man was driving a 2001 Chevy S10 pickup on southbound Vincent Road. He didn’t see the girl in the roadway because of the dusty, dark conditions and struck her. She sustained major injuries and was flown to Doctor’s Medical Center.

The Camry came to rest on its driver’s side on the dirt shoulder of Vincent Road. One of the injured juvenile passengers who had been inside the car died at the scene.

Two juvenile male passengers in the rear seats were pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated out later by emergency personnel, according to Zuniga.

CHP suspects Ibarra, the driver of the Camry, had been drinking. He was placed under arrest, but was released to the custody of the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

The others who had been inside the Camry were treated for major and moderate injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not under the influence and was not injured, CHP said.
