Man dies after shots fired near 19th and P streets in Merced, police say

One man is dead following a shooting reported just after midnight on Monday, a few blocks southwest of Court House Square Park in central Merced.

Details are preliminary and the name of the victim has not been released, pending notification of family or next of kin.

Officers responded to the 900 block of West 19th Street for shots fired call at about 12:07 a.m. Monday.

On scene officers located the wounded victim, who was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Authorities said detectives are following up on leads. A suspect description has not been released.
