Two people injured in Livingston shooting, likely gang related, police say
Authorities found two people with gunshot wounds after responding to a shots fired call Tuesday morning in the southeast area of Livingston, according to the Livingston Police Department.
Officers responded to a shots fired call in the area of Chianti Court at about 1:35 a.m., according to a police department news release.
The responding officers located 70-year-old Angelino Zurita and his 36-year-old son, Christobal Zurita, both with gunshot wounds, at the family’s home, according to Sgt. Ray Fong.
Police are still in the early stages of the investigation, however, it is believed the son was returning home to the house when someone reportedly opened fire on him. At this time, police believe the father was inside a front room of the home when he was struck by the gunfire.
Officers located evidence at the scene that included shell casings and bullets. According to Fong, witnesses in the area claim to have heard multiple shots fired.
“Right now, the detective is speaking to the victims at the hospital and officers are canvasing the neighborhoods and checking for cameras and witnesses,” Fong said.
Both victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to police. According to Fong, Christobal has been released from the hospital and has been uncooperative with authorities.
Authorities said the shooting is believed to be related to criminal street gang activity. Fong said Christobal is believed to be affiliated with a gang, however, it is unknown if he is actively involved with a gang. No suspects or weapons have been located.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Livingston Police Department at 209-394-7916.
