Stanislaus County man wanted for hit-and-run, evading police in Merced

A Stanislaus County man evaded police after a hit-and-run on Saturday morning near downtown Merced, police say.

Police officers stopped a vehicle in the 1100 block of West 16th Street at 9:25 a.m.. The driver verbally identified himself as Jeremy Montemorano, 39, who is on probation from Stanislaus County, according to police.

When officers asked Montemorano to exit the vehicle, he drove off Officers gave chase but canceled the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

After the pursuit ended, Montemorano struck a vehicle in the 1100 block of West 15th Street, but no one was injured.

Montemorano is wanted on suspicion of felony evading, probation violation, driving with an expired registration and hit-and-run.

Merced Police are asking anyone with any information to call Officer Leah Garcia at 209-388-7749.
