Merced police arrest man, 20, suspected of DUI, possession of firearm

A 20-year old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of an unregistered handgun Sunday morning in Merced, according to police.

Officers said they noticed a car traveling in excess of 60 mph and swerving on West 16th Street at 1:46 a.m.

After stopping the vehicle, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol as they talked to the driver identified as Jesse Delarosa.

A DUI investigation was conducted. Delarosa provided a breath sample and the results showed he was more than twice the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle.

While conducting a search, officers said, a handgun was found in the car.

Delarosa was arrested on suspicion of DUI, possession of an unregistered firearm and carrying a firearm in a motor vehicle.
