Authorities identify victims killed in separate Los Banos shootings
The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has released the names of two men killed in separate weekend shootings in Los Banos at the end of May.
According to Deputy Daryl Allen, Kevin Maldonado, 22, was identified as the victim of a May 30 shooting near an apartment complex.
Dylan Garay, 25, was identified as the victim of a shooting in the area of Highway 152 and Badger Flat Road on May 31. Both men were residents of Los Banos, according to Allen.
According to Los Banos Police, officers responded to a shots fired call in the unit block of West I Street at about 11:48 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, and found Maldonado suffering from a gunshot wound behind an apartment complex.
Maldonado was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On Sunday, May 31, officers responded to the 1500 block of West Pacheco Boulevard at about 5:10 p.m. for a report of a disturbance at a gas station, according to police.
The two parties involved in an altercation reportedly left the area in vehicles and were traveling along Badger Flat Road. The occupant of one of the vehicles opened fire and struck Garay, who was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango.
Garay’s vehicle traveled across oncoming lanes of traffic before crashing, according to police.
According to authorities, Garay was pronounced dead at the scene.
