Suspect arrested in connection with shooting near Dos Palos gas station, police say
A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred last week near a gas station in Dos Palos, according to authorities.
On July 16, Dos Palos Police officers responded at about 12:41 a.m. to the shooting near the parking lot of Circle K, located at 2549 Blossom Street, according to a news release.
Police said the victim was later found to be at a Los Banos hospital receiving treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot would to the leg.
An investigation led officers to identify the suspect vehicle involved as well as the suspected shooter who police identified as Daniel Martinez, 23, of Los Banos.
According to authorities, Martinez was located and arrested without incident on Wednesday in the City of Merced by the U.S. Marshals Service. Officers served a search warrant where the suspect had been staying and located a firearm.
Police said the firearm will be tested to determine if it was used in the shooting. Authorities said the shooting may have been gang related.
Martinez was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm and other charges, according to police.
