Atwater police investigating shooting that left man injured
Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one man injured in Atwater.
Officers responded to the 1100 block of Swaps Street near Determine Drive shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday, for a report of shots fired, according to an Atwater Police Department news release.
Police said arriving officers located an adult male with a single gunshot wound to his lower right leg. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
According to Atwater Police Chief Michael Salvador, authorities collected multiple shell casings from the scene as evidence and believe there may have been more than one firearm used in the shooting.
Salvador said the motive behind the shooting is unclear, but it may have been gang related. No suspect has been identified at this time, according to police.
