Police investigating Atwater’s second homicide of 2020 after body found at Osborne Park

The Atwater Police Department is investigating the city’s second homicide of the year after a body was found at Osborne Park on Friday morning.

Police responded at 6:45 a.m. to a call regarding an unresponsive male found near an irrigation canal at the back of Osborne Park, which is located on East Bellevue Road. Officers found the male partially clothed near a homeless campsite.

The male was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be determined, according to police. Preliminary observations of the injuries led police to believe the subject was the victim of a homicide. Cause of death is yet to be determined and an autopsy is pending.

Investigators are processing the scene and the surrounding area for evidence. The Atwater Police Department is seeking the public’s help with any information regarding this crime. The police are asking for anybody who has information or witnessed anything suspicious in the Osborne Park area recently to contact the Atwater Police Department at 209-357-6384 and ask for Detectives Vierra or Aguilar.
