Convicted felon found with gun and drugs in Merced, police say

A convicted felon was arrested Thursday after he was found to be in possession of a firearm, according to authorities.

At about 6:50 p.m. an officer with the Merced Police Department DART unit saw a suspicious vehicle parked in an open field in the 1000 block of Motel Drive, according to a news release.

The officer made contact with the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Kao Saelee, and arrested him on a warrant. According to police, Saelee is a convicted felon and was found to be in possession of about 50 grams of crystal methamphetamine, as well as a 9 mm handgun.

Saelee was arrested and booked into Merced County Jail on the warrant, as well as suspicion of felon in possession of a firearm and sales of methamphetamine, according to police. According to jail records, he remains in custody in lieu of $187,000 bond.
