Gang members arrested for firearm possession, Merced County deputies say

Three gang members already on probation were arrested on weapons allegations Friday night in Delhi, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Tactics and Reconnaissance Team attempted to stop a white Nissan Maxima at 4:40 p.m. Friday. The driver refused to pull over, authorities said, leading to a short pursuit.

The chase ended in the area of Jennifer Court, the Sheriff’s Office stated, when the three people in the car took off running. Deputies gave chase and caught all three.

One of the suspects, identified as a juvenile on felony probation, dropped a loaded Glock 27 handgun as he tried to climb a fence, according to deputies. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

The others were identified as Guillermo Cardenas, 21, and Adrian Michelec, 19. Both are on felony probation in Merced County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

All three are known by the STAR Team to be local gang members, according to deputies, who said they found a second loaded high-capacity Glock magazine while searching the vehicle.

All three suspects were being booked on charges that included felons in possession of guns and ammo, gang enhancements, felony evading, child endangerment and resisting arrest.
