Man named as suspect in Merced shooting turns himself in, authorities say
A Merced man who was named a suspect in a shooting last month has turned himself in, according to authorities.
Bryant Hernandez, 29, was taken into custody by deputies at Merced County Superior Court just before 9 a.m. Monday, Sheriff’s Deputy Daryl Allen said.
Hernandez was identified by Merced police as a suspect in connection with a July 15 shooting at the Bi-Rite market in the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Court documents name Hernandez as one of four defendants charged with attempted murder.
According to police, officers responded to a call of shots fired and found one of two gunshot victims inside the store. The other gunshot victim was located at Mercy Medical Center after driving himself to the hospital.
According to the court documents, a notice to appear for Hernandez was filed on July 21, requiring him to appear for an Aug. 24 arraignment. Court records show that on Monday, a plea of not guilty was entered to the charges of attempted murder and shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle.
According to Merced County Jail records, Hernandez remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bond.
