Police investigating shooting in southeast Merced, after man crashes into power pole

Police responded Monday morning to shooting in southeast Merced that injured one man.

Details are preliminary.

Detective-Sgt. Robert Solis said officers were dispatched at about 10:11 a.m. to Campus Parkway at Gerard Avenue after a 42-year-old man had crashed into a power pole.

The arriving officers found the man had a gunshot wound. The victim was flown to a Modesto area hospital. Police are following up on leads. According to Solis, the man suffered serious injuries.

Police said they believe the man was shot prior to the crash. According to Solis, police have not identified any motive for the shooting.

Police shut down Campus Parkway between Childs Avenue and East Gerard Avenue while officers investigated at the scene.
