Suspect arrested on suspicion of beating sister’s dog to death, Merced police say
A 30-year old suspect was arrested on suspicion of beating a dog to death in Merced on Thursday night, according to police.
Police officers responded to a report of possible animal abuse in the 100 block of Manzanita Drive in Merced at 8:34 p.m. on Thursday. Police located Jesus Fonseca, 30, inside the residence with the dog’s body.
The officers learned the dog belonged to Fonseca’s sister, who lived at the residence.
Fonseca told officers he was upset at the dog, saying he kicked it once and it died. The investigating officers determined Fonseca was not being truthful and that he had beaten the dog to death with objects in the residence.
Fonseca was booked into the Merced County Jail for alleged animal cruelty causing death of the dog.
