Police investigating shooting that injured man in south Merced

Authorities are investigating a shooting that injured a 23-year-old man in Merced on Monday night.

According to Merced Police Lt. Joe Weiss, police received a call reporting a shooting in the 900 block of D Street at about 10:38 p.m..

Weiss said police made contact with the victim at Mercy Medical Center after he received a ride to the hospital. According to police, the man’s single gunshot wound is considered non-life threatening.

Police believe the shot was fired from the occupant of a vehicle that drove by. The victim was sitting outside of a residence when he was hit.

The suspect vehicle may have been a white truck with two occupants.

According to Weiss, police have not determined a motive for the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Merced Police Department at 209-385-6912.
