Merced County Sheriff’s deputies investigating homicide in Winton

Merced County Sheriff’s deputies have launched a homicide investigation in the death of a man after he was found lying along a roadway near Myrtle Avenue and Irene Lane in Winton.

According to Deputy Daryl Allen, at about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Merced County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 72000 block of Myrtle Avenue after an adult male, believed to be a Winton resident in his early to mid 20s, was found lying along the roadway by people in the neighborhood.

Allen said deputies arrived on scene and found the man unresponsive. Deputies attempted live saving measures until paramedics arrived and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is the 17th homicide reported this year in Merced County. There were 15 reported homicides last year in Merced County.
