Pedestrian struck and killed by train in Merced, police say
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Merced on Saturday, according to police.
Officers responded to the collision in 200 block of East 16th Street near the Highway 99 overpass at about 12:50 p.m., according to Lt. Joe Weiss.
Weiss said the victim appears to be an adult male possibly in his 40s who was pronounced dead at the scene. Merced police secured the immediate area until Union Pacific police arrived on scene.
According to Weiss, Union Pacific police are conducting an investigation.
