Merced man arrested after gun, drugs and stolen items found in residence, deputies say

Merced County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 39-year old Merced man after finding a loaded firearm, narcotics, ammunition, money and different types of stolen personal documents on Thursday, according to deputies.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office Supervised Release Team (SRT) was conducting compliance checks on inmate Philip Wayne Stiles, who was released on the tracking bracelet program.

Stiles was the bracelet program as a pre-trial inmate for previous charges of being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and beling felon in possession of ammunition.

While searching Stiles’ residence in the 1900 block of Shadowbrook Drive, deputies found a loaded .38 caliber revolver, methamphetamines, multiple different calibers of ammunition, money and multiple different types of stolen personal documents, including several driver’s licenses, social security cards, ATM/credit cards and checks.

Stiles was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail on new allegations of felon in possession of a loaded firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a control substance, and several other felonies.

His bail was set at $410,000, according to jail records.
