Merced police ask for help from community to identify burglary suspect

The Merced Police Department said it is seeking help from the community in identifying a subject suspected of being involved in a residential burglary, according to a news release.

Police said officers investigated the burglary in the 800 block of Carol Avenue on Friday. Between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., an unknown suspect broke into the home of an 87-year-old victim and stole electronics and an antique 1920s firearm while the victim was asleep, according to authorities.

Police said the officers reviewed surveillance footage from the neighborhood as well as from a nearby business. Photographs and videos were obtained by officers of what police said is a person of interest.
