Atwater police searching for suspects in shooting that injured two people

Atwater police are investigating an attempted homicide after a shooting injured an 18-year-old man and a male juvenile on Sunday.

Officers responded at 7:40 p.m. to the intersection of Swaps Street and Nashua Street for a report of a shooting.

Arriving officers located the two victims with gunshot wounds. Both officers and Emergency Medical Services personnel performed life-saving measures and one of the victims was taken to a Modesto-area hospital in stable condition while the other victim was taken in critical condition, according to the release.

Authorities are looking for a white Dodge van or SUV with multiple subjects in it. Police said no suspects have been identified in the shooting at this time and a motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Officers on scene located evidence of multiple shots fired from a semi-automatic handgun, according to police. The Atwater Police Department is in the early stages of an investigation and has requested the public’s assistance in providing video surveillance from the area at the time of the shooting.
