Police investigate drive-by shooting after apartment struck by gunfire in Merced
Authorities are investigating after an apartment building was struck by gunfire in Merced on Sunday.
At about 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1100 block of East Santa Fe Avenue, according to Merced police Lt. Emily Foster.
Officers located bullet holes on the outside of the apartment building as well as inside a common area of an apartment unit. Foster said the unit was occupied by three adults at the time of the shooting and no injuries were reported.
According to Foster, it appears the shots were fired from a vehicle that was possibly occupied by two to four men.
Officers located multiple shell casings in the roadway. According to police, witnesses described the suspect vehicle as small and possibly blue in color. It is unknown which direction the vehicle fled following the shooting.
Police have not identified a possible motive for the shooting.
