Merced County Sheriff investigating suspicious death after man’s body found in lagoon

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is investigation a suspicious death after a body was found in a dairy lagoon near Merced on Friday.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of an object that was possibly a body in the lagoon in the 5800 block of Worden Avenue, southeast of Merced..

After discovering it was a body, assistance was requested from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Water Rescue and Recovery team.

Divers retrieved a male body from the lagoon.

Due to contaminates in the lagoon divers used a specialized contamination dive suit and the CAL-Fire Hazardous Materials response team assisted with decontaminating divers after retrieving the body.

The incident is currently under investigation and the name of the decedent is not being released at this time pending positive identification and notification to the next of kin.
