Shooting kills man in Atwater; police searching for two suspects

One man is dead after a shooting reported early Saturday off Juniper Avenue, Atwater police say.

Details are preliminary and police are searching for two suspects in the homicide.

Around 1:40 a.m. police responded to the 1000 block of Juniper Avenue for a report of a shooting. They found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Police and emergency personnel tried to save his life, but he was declared dead at the scene, according to a police news release.

Police have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of family or next-of-kin. The two suspects left the scene in an unknown type of sedan. The motive remains under investigation.
