Detectives are investigating after a man was shot at a Winton gas station Tuesday night.

At about 6 p.m. Merced County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Marathon gas station at 6756 North Winton Way for a report of shots fired according to Deputy Daryl Allen.

Deputies located an adult male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was flown to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Allen, it appears the victim, who is not from the Merced area, was getting gas when two young adult males walked up and shot him several times.

The suspects took off running in an unknown direction.

Allen said detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and are in the preliminary stages of an investigation.

Allen said a motive for the shooting is unknown at this time and it does not appear to be gang-related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Office at 209-385-7472.
