Authorities are investigating an assault after a man was stabbed in Los Banos on Tuesday, according to police officials.

At about 5:50 a.m. officers responded to the 2400 block of East Pacheco Boulevard, just east of Ward Road, for a report of a stabbing victim, according to Los Banos police Sgt. Justin Melden.

Officers located an adult male believed to be in his early 20s, suffering from at least one stab wound to the back of his upper torso.

He was transported to a Modesto area hospital with moderate injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, according to Melden. “At this point, the victim of the stabbing is expected to be treated and released from the hospital,” Melden said.

Police said investigators learned the man may have been stabbed somewhere along the rail trail between Place Road and Pacheco Boulevard.

Melden said investigators are working to determine if the man was involved in any altercation or if the attack was unprovoked. The motive is unknown at this time.

No suspects have been identified or arrested and investigators are working to locate any possible witnesses or video surveillance from the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Los Banos Police Department Detective-Sgt. Ceja at 209-827-2507.
