The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified a resident killed in a shooting that injured three others at a house party in the Beachwood area as Mateo Soriano, 18, according to Deputy Daryl Allen.

Deputies responded to a residence in the 2600 block of Cowden Avenue in the Beachwood area shortly after 1 a.m. for a report of a disturbance.

“I know it was a very large party with lots of loud music and that’s why we were called there,” Allen said.

While en-route to the location, deputies were advised that there were shots fired. When they arrived on scene they found two juveniles and two adults with gunshot wounds. Soriano was pronounced dead Sunday, and the three other victims were transported to a Modesto-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to Allen.

Authorities did not release any additional information about the victims.

Deputies said the shooting occurred outside the residence and no suspects have been identified or arrested at this time. According to Allen, it is unclear what led up to the shooting and just how many people were at the residence.

“I know detectives are still speaking to many of the people who were there at the party,” Allen said.

Allen said detectives are looking for any possible witnesses to the shooting as well as any video surveillance from the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Bureau at 209-385-7472.
