Teen riding bike struck, injured by hit-and-run driver in Merced County, CHP says

California Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run collision after a vehicle struck and injured a 13-year-old bicyclist in Merced County.

CHP officers at 10:55 a.m. Monday responded to the area of King Street and Mediterranean Avenue in Delhi, according to a CHP news release.

Emergency personnel located the victim suffering from minor injuries, according to CHP Officer Eric Zuniga.

The teen was taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of his injuries, according to the release.

Authorities said that based on a preliminary investigation, it appears the victim was riding his bicycle in a north direction across King Street.

The suspect vehicle was traveling west on Mediterranean Avenue, east of King Street, when the driver’s side of the vehicle collided with the bicyclist, according to a CHP news release.

The CHP said it is unknown how fast the suspect vehicle was traveling at it approached the cyclist.

After the collision, the suspect vehicle fled the scene traveling west on Mediterranean Avenue, the CHP said.

Officers believe the suspect vehicle is a 2014 to 2019 silver Hyundai Sonata, possibly with driver side damage.

According to the CHP, the collision remains under investigation and anyone who witnessed the alleged collision, has information regarding the incident or suspect vehicle, is asked to contact Officer M. Flores at 209-356-6600 or after hours at 209-356-2900.
