One man killed, another injured in Winton shooting, Merced County deputies say
Authorities are investigating a shooting that killed one man and left another man injured at a park Tuesday night in Winton.
Few details are available at this time.
Merced County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at about 7:45 p.m. to a park in the area of Olive Avenue and North Winton Way in Winton on Tuesday evening, to investigate a possible homicide, according to a Merced County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Michelle Oliver.
Deputies arrived on scene and located one man dead and another with major injuries from what authorities believe is a gang-related shooting. According to Oliver, authorities do not believe there is any threat to the community.
One of the men was flown to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to the post. The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin. According to Oliver, authorities continue to investigate the incident and speak with any possible witnesses.
According to authorities, the park is now open.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau at 209-385-7472.
There have been 22 recorded homicides in Merced County this year, according to the Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
