Gang member is arrested after leading officers on a pursuit in Merced, police say

A 25-year old gang member was arrested after leading officers on a pursuit in Merced, according to police.

The Merced Police Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit located known gang member Armando Rodriguez, 25, of Merced in the 300 block of South Highway 59 at 7:13 p.m. Friday, according to a social media post by the department.

Officers were aware Rodriguez was wanted on several felony warrants alleging a parole violation, kidnapping and domestic violence.

As officers attempted to detain him, Rodriguez led police on a pursuit through South Merced. Rodriguez crashed his vehicle in the 600-block alley of West Seventh Street and fled on foot.

Rodriguez was apprehended after a short foot chase.

Rodriguez was booked into Merced County Jail for his outstanding warrants, and on suspicion of felony evading and resisting and obstructing police officers. His bail was set at $152,500, according to jail records.
