2 sought in attack on Atwater teenager

Atwater police are looking for two people involved in attacking a teenager Sunday on Huntingdale Way, officers reported.

Police believe several gunshots may have been fired into the air and also suspect the incident, reported about 1:32 a.m. Sunday, may be gang related, Lt. Samuel Joseph said.

The victim, a teenage boy whose exact age was not available, was assaulted by a man described as a Hispanic male in a white shirt. The victim did not appear to have been seriously injured, police said.

Joseph said the victim was attacked by the man while several others “egged the suspect to take the victim’s Raiders jersey.”

“A physical fight ensued between the unidentified suspect and victim,” Joseph said. “During the fight the ... neighbors intervened and told the suspect to back off.”

At that point, police said, another unidentified person in the group reportedly fired several shots into the air and people in the area scattered.

Investigators said they did not find any shell casings in the area.

Atwater police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact investigators at (209) 357-6396. Tips are confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
