Atwater convenience store target of armed robbery

Two men used a firearm early Sunday to rob an Atwater convenience store, taking a case of beer each, the police department reported.

Lt. Samuel Joseph said two people, described only as Latino men, went to the Circle K store, 1021 Shaffer Road, just after 3 a.m. Sunday and approached a store clerk who was standing outside. One of the men brandished a firearm, which was in his waistband, and ordered the clerk inside.

Once inside, police said, the men took two cases of beer and fled in an undetermined direction.

No injuries were reported and no shots were fired.

Investigators are hoping for help from the public to identify the men involved in the robbery.

Atwater police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact investigators at 209-357-6394. Tips are confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
