police say a homicide investigation into the death of a 51-year-old woman in north Merced is now being called a murder-suicide.

Officers were called to a home in the 2400 block of White Fir Court around 5:40 p.m. Thursday for a welfare check after the woman didn’t pick up her child from school, according to a Merced police news release.

Police found the woman’s body inside the home, located northeast of East Olive Avenue and McKee Road, and she had visible injuries.

Detectives were trying to find the victim’s 54-year-old husband when they learned he was killed in a train-versus-pedestrian incident earlier Thursday.

The child was not physically harmed, police said, adding that the apparent murder-suicide remains under investigation. The names of the woman and her husband have not been released, pending notification of their families and next-of-kin.
