DUI checkpoint planned Friday, Atwater police say
Atwater police have announced they will be looking for impaired drivers throughout the city on Friday, with plans for a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city.
Police also did not disclose the time that checkpoint will happen.
Funding for the special operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Police encourage anyone who will drink alcohol to designate a sober driver or call a friend or taxi for a ride. Party hosts should also provide plenty of food and nonalcoholic drinks for sober drivers.
Police also encourage party- or bar-goers to step in when someone appears to be too drunk to drive. Drunken drivers should be reported by calling 911.
