Chowchilla man, 40, accused of domestic-violence and gun charges, police say

A 40-year old Chowchilla man was arrested on suspicion of domestic-violence and weapons violations late Friday, according to police.

Officers responded to a call of a possible kidnapping about 11:24 p.m. in the 800 block of Lakeshore Drive in Chowchilla. After further investigation, officers learned no kidnapping had occurred.

However, officers initiated a domestic-violence investigation and followed up at a residence in the 8000 block of Laguna Drive. Officers detained Sammy Lee Johnson III, 40, who is on probation.

During a probation search of his residence, officers found one .223 short-barreled rifle with no serial number and an unregistered .22LR short-barreled rifle.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, false imprisonment and possessing firearms. He was taken to the Madera County Jail and his bond is set at $140,000, according to jail records.
