Police investigating after man shot and killed in Atwater
Authorities are investigating the second recorded homicide of the year in Atwater, after a man was shot and killed on Monday, according to police.
At about 10:51 p.m., officers responded to the area of Elm Avenue and High Street after receiving a report of shots fired, according to the Atwater police. While officers were responding to the call, Atwater Police dispatch received information about a potential shooting victim at the intersection of Packers Street and Cedar Avenue.
The arriving officers located a man believed to be in his 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders attempted life-saving measures and the man was transported to a hospital where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
According to Atwater Police Chief Michael Salvador, investigators were able to locate a crime scene where the shooting took place and are actively investigating the homicide working diligently to follow any leads. No suspects have been arrested and a possible motive for the shooting remains under investigation, according to Salvador.
