A 38-year-old man was in stable condition with a stab wound and a teenager in custody following an altercation in the 300 block of West 22nd Street in Merced.

Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of West 22nd Street at about 12:15 p.m. Sunday, on a report of an assault, according to Merced Police Sgt. Jeremy Salyers. When officers arrived on scene they found a man suffering from a stab wound to his abdomen.

The man was flown to a Modesto area hospital for treatment of his injuries, where he was in stable condition, police said.

Salyers said officers spoke with witnesses at the scene and identified 18-year-old Bobby Davis of Merced, as a suspect in the alleged stabbing. Davis returned to the scene a short time later and was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.

According to Salyers, it is believed that the suspect and victim know each other.

A knife was recovered from the scene, according to Salyers.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Merced Police Detective Brandon Vazquez at 209-388-7784.
