Merced police arrest Oakland shooting suspect
Merced police arrested a man Wednesday who is a suspect in an Oakland shooting and had an outstanding arrest warrant, authorities reported.
Antonio McBroom, 53, was wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with an incident April 30. Oakland police and the U.S. Marshals Service had been searching for McBroom, and a Merced officer learned he was possibly in Merced.
Merced police saw McBroom entering a home in the 300 block of Edan Court and attempted to arrest him, with the help of Merced Disruptive Area Response Team. McBroom fled on foot into a neighbor’s backyard. Officers chased and captured him.
A search warrant was served at the residence McBroom visited, and officers found a stolen gun, authorities said.
McBroom was booked for the felony warrant issued by Oakland police. Additional charges may be filed against him when the investigation is complete. McBroom remains in the John Latoracca Correctional Center on $210,000 bail, jail records show.
