Two men shot inside Merced County bar

Two people suffered gunshots wounds over the weekend during a gang-related confrontation inside a Le Grand bar, Merced County sheriff’s detectives said.

The victims, whose names were not released Monday, were shot in the upper body, but their injuries were not life threatening. One man was said to be in his 20s, the other in his 30s, according to Detective Clint Landrum.

Deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to Oseguera Bar, 3891 Santa Fe Avenue in Le Grand, after a confrontation between customers turned violent, Landrum said.

“A group of patrons thought they recognized someone they believed was possibly a rival gang member,” Landrum said in a telephone interview. “Words were exchanged; we don’t know exactly what was said.”

The confrontation became “heated,” and multiple shots were fired from one gun, striking the two men, deputies said.

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon, but deputies were still following up on leads in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Landrum at 209-385-4983. Tips are confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
